Hi all

I thought I would upload one of my recent projects. This is a hand painted dining room table & chair set. This commission was for a table, 6 chairs with 4 matching bar stools. The client requested the colors. It was painted with alkyds. It has 2 primer coats, 3 base coats, art, slight antique glaze and 3 poly coats to protect.

Very time consuming!

Thanks for viewing and have a great week!

Hi! Today I thought I would upload a few photos that I took last year along the California coast. I was born and raised in California and am always amazed at the wonderful beauty it has. One of my favorite pastimes is to travel along the coastline. The photos I am going to share were taken near Hearst Castle and up the northern coastline on highway 1. I have included some shots of the Elephant Seals. You may read more about them here- Elephant Seals

Le Gouter (The Snack) reproduction January 24, 2007

Filed under: Fine Art, Old Master's Paintings, art — exquisitedesigns @ 10:13 pm

Hi, been away for a few days. I thought I would display the painting I finished from Liliedahl’s School of oil painting
(Old Master Methods Part 1: The Flemish/Bistre Method). This is one of two paintings required for this course. This painting is done with oils and measures 20″x30″. The painting is after “The Snack” by William Bouguereau.
He is one of my favorite painters. I will include a link to some of his work in my next post. He was a very prolific painter for his time and all his pieces are beautiful, at least I think so. This course was not to paint an exact copy but to learn from the old masters and their techniques and to give a better understanding to that process. My copy is in no way comparable to his beautiful piece, but I did learn a lot from the course!

The stages are as follows:
1) drawing stage
2)color glazes
3) final opaque stages-finished painting

Painted Canvas Valances January 21, 2007

Filed under: Decorative Art, Design, Uncategorized — exquisitedesigns @ 6:47 am

Hi! I thought I would share one of my projects for a client. This project was for a painted canvas valance, one of four that I did for this particular client. I was fortunate and contacted by a book publisher who asked to use this particular painted valance in their new sewing book. The book is titled “The Step by Step Sewing Course” published by Reader’s Digest. Here is a link from Amazon-book

I have also included the painted valance on my painting wall. I am frequently contacted for these valances and offer custom designs for the clients.

The first photo shown is the canvas valance stapled to my painting wall. I stretch the canvas and staple it into place, measure, then paint. I will then carefully take the canvas down and trim, hem, add pocket and add any trim. These are really a great alternative to traditional window valances!
